Murrieta was founded in 1873 by Juan Murrieta and Ezequiel Murrieta, who established a large cattle ranch in the area. Over time, the community grew around the railroad and local agriculture, eventually becoming the City of Murrieta in 1991. Today, Historic Downtown Murrieta remains the heart of the community, blending its western heritage with modern businesses, restaurants, events, and gathering spaces.

Main Street Murrieta continues that legacy by supporting revitalization efforts and creating community events such as Murrieta Market Nights that bring residents and visitors together.
